Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Makes Its Video Game Debut In Driveclub

You may remember the CLA from such Super Bowl commercials as the one with Kate Upton and also Kate Upton. Now Mercedes is unleashing a significantly more badass version of that car, but one that keeps its good looks. 

The CLA45 AMG is set to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine good for 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes claims this will be the most powerful four-banger in series production today. Power will go to all four wheels when it goes on sale in November with a price tag of just over $50,000, according to Car and Driver. Not bad at all. 

The CLA45 AMG, and the smaller A45 AMG hatchback, will both be playable cars in Driveclub. Those of us who want to see photos of the real thing will have to wait until it debuts at the New York Auto Show next month.

Mercedes-Benz' Alabama Plant to Make New SUV for 2015


The American South has become synonymous with foreign auto brand manufacturing for the better part of two decades. Everything from humble Toyota Corollas and Sentras all the way up to Mercedes-Benz and BMW models are rolling out of Dixie, not only to North American markets, but around the world.
Mercedes-Benz showed its commitment to its U.S. manufacturing presence by announcing a fifth model to be produced at Mercedes' plant in Vance, Alabama, outside Tuscaloosa. The plant currently builds the ML and GL SUVs, the R-Class crossover, and will begin production on the C-Class sedan in 2014. The fifth model is scheduled to go online in 2015.
The future model was revealed to Alabama governor Robert Bentley on a recent trip to Stuttgart as part of an industrial recruiting trip. Bentley described the vehicle as "sleek" and "eye-catching." Based on this description, it's believed the new model will be an ML-based model with more aggressive, carlike bodywork, along the lines of BMW's X6 crossover.
The X6 has not been a large-volume seller for BMW. But the ML has been a runaway hit for Mercedes-Benz, as one of the best-selling models in the luxury SUV class in the U.S. and around the world. The majority of ML production globally is sourced from the Vance factory.

Mercedes-Benz Produces the Most Effective Super Bowl Auto Ad

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco may have taken home the Pete Rozelle Trophy during Super Bowl XLVII, but Mercedes-Benz (IW 1000/18) also won MVP honors Sunday.
The German automaker debuted the most effective automotive ad of the big game, according to Ace Metrix, a television analytics company. The company’s “Soul” ad, which featured Williem Defoe, Kate Upton and Usher, earned an Ace score — a figure based on an ad’s persuasion and watchability — of 626.
Conversely, Lincoln’s (IW 500/4) “Steer the Script” was the least effective, only pulling in a rating of 491 – far below the auto industry’s norm of 539, Ace Metrix said.
Overall, automotive ads scored well among viewers. Three auto commercials cracked the Top 10 list of all 2013 Super Bowl ads — Mercedes-Benz “Soul,” fifth, 626; Jeep (IW 1000/48) “Whole Again,” sixth, 622; Hyundai (IW 1000/122) “Stuck,” ninth, 611.
“The broad range of creative executions in this year’s Top 10 list — from product intros, iconic storytelling, philanthropy, user generated content, comedy and hyperbole — show that at the end of the day it’s great creative — not elaborate social campaigns —that win the hearts and minds of consumers on Super Bowl Sunday,” Peter Daboll, CEO of Ace Metrix, said in a statement.

Ace Metrix surveyed 500 viewers on ads’ watchability — engagement — and persuasion — desire, relevance, likeability, attention, information and change. The highest possible score is a 950, however, fewer than 10% of all ads break 600, according to Ace Metrix.
